Ankara Institute Director Osman Sert Discusses Regional Dimensions of the ‘New Process’ at Izmir Workshop
Ankara Institute Director Osman Sert participated in the workshop titled “The First Year of the New Process: Internal Dynamics and Regional Effects,” held in Izmir on October 11, 2025. The event was jointly organized by the Center for Kurdish Studies, BAYETAV, and RAWEST Research. In the workshop’s first session, Sert evaluated the risks and opportunities facing the process, focusing on the impact of developments in Syria.
The workshop, marking the first anniversary of the process, brought together expert academics and political actors to discuss a wide range of topics, from social trends to regional dynamics.
The first session, moderated by Seren Selvin Korkmaz, focused on the reflections of regional developments on the process in Turkey. In this session, our Director Osman Sert, alongside DEM Party Diyarbakır MP Cengiz Çandar and AA Analyst Mehmet Alaca, assessed the dynamics originating from Syria, Iraq, and Iran. In his speech, Sert specifically focused on the effects of developments in Syria on the process, highlighting the inherent risks and opportunities for the current process in this context.
